The stewardship of Yellowstone|
Are you concerned for the future of our Earth? Live your values at work! "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" is Xanterra's mantra...and we practice what we preach.
Joining Xanterra Parks & Resorts® as an employee means you will be part of an effort not only to preserve this park's fragile ecosystem, but to operate a business in accordance with the sound environmental principles that impact the future of the world in which we live.
With careful planning and our Environmental Management System in place, Ecologix spans many facets of our mission. Some of the ways we do this in Yellowstone, and at all Xanterra-operated properties are:
Xanterra Parks & Resorts'® Ecologix program includes a variety of proactive environmental stewardship programs in each location. Xanterra has been repeatedly recognized for its environmental leadership in the hospitality industry and is the recipient of many honors, including major awards from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Environmental Protection Agency and the Travel Industry Association, along with the "Good Earthkeeping" award from American Hotel & Lodging Association.
Xanterra is among the first hospitality companies to receive the prestigious ISO 14001 International Environmental Management System Standard certification for all of its national park operations. This ISO Certification of our Environmental Management Systems makes us one of fewer than 1,000 companies with ISO-certified sites in the U.S., of which only a handful are companies in the tourism industry. Additionally, only our Ecologix program integrates the ISO certifications with a computerized "Ecometrix" tracking and reporting system, intranet-based corrective actions database, and internal audits to provide a comprehensive picture of environmental performance.
All of this information is compiled and becomes an annual Sustainability Report. The accuracy of this report is audited by a third party, KPMG Performance Registrar Inc., an international environmental auditing firm. This assessment process includes site visits, interviews with staff and an assessment of the effectiveness of the Environmental Management System in accurately reporting relevant data.
Our partner in the Environmental Management System is the National Park Service. Their commitment to the stewardship of Yellowstone, and all national parks, is a driving force in the preservation of the environment. Xanterra and NPS share in the stewardship of many of our "Beautiful Places on Earth", which is a literal translation of "Xanterra".
